New Blood is the latest studio recording by Peter Gabriel. It presents Peter's songs, culled from right across his solo career, in an orchestral setting. Dispensing with the traditional weapons of the rock armory - no guitar, bass or drums - the lyrics are exposed and laid bare, often taking new meaning with the passing of the years.
Following last year's Scratch My Back, a covers album with a difference, which explored the magical songwriting of some of Peter's favourite artists in an orchestral context, Peter now turns to his own songs for this radical reinterpretation. Working together, arranger John Metcalfe, Peter and the New Blood Orchestra give each track a new depth, a powerful new significance.
DVD - 'New Blood Live In London'
Over two nights in March 2011, Peter Gabriel took to the stage at the HMV Hammersmith Apollo, London, in the company of the 46-strong New Blood Orchestra, with the entire event filmed in 3D for release later in the year.
The extraordinary show features a handful of the covers from last year's Scratch My Back project, but the majority of songs are taken from Peter's solo career and given the same glorious orchestral treatment, courtesy of arranger John Metcalfe. Performed before a backdrop of multiple video screens, the show is designed with the same creative spark that made Gabriel one of the original geniuses of the MTV age. As white and blood-coloured lighting designs swirling like a cosmic soup above the heads of the orchestra, Gabriel's songs take new shape and extra meaning.
The concert will be available on DVD, Blu Ray and 3D Blu Ray plus a multimedia Deluxe Edition with a photobook. The 3D film will be shown in selected cinemas.
